Orvis Battenkill ~ 7' ~ 2/2 ~ 3 1/2 oz. ~ 4/5wt. ~ SN 19223 ~ EXC RS ~ Simply a wonderful little wand from the Chas F. Orvis Co. was made in 1956 and looks to me to have been expertly restored (most likely by Orvis). It features rich impregnated cane wrapped in Orvis brown silks over impregnated cane. Fine Orvis furnishings include bronze Orvis stripper, bronze snakes and tip-tops. Smooth fitting blued N/S ferrules, give a nice "pop" when separated. The ferrule fit of one of the tips is a bit worn though and should be addressed before the tip is fished. Exposed WC with and HK guide below it. Cigar grip has been cleaned (not be me) and shows some minor ridging. Aluminum D/L'ing screw seat with walnut spacer. The rod is neatly marked "Orvis - Impregnated "Battenkill" and also with a former owners name all in neat black script. The serial number is also inked on each section. Comes with what is considered to be the original Orvis green bag and original tube with the early paper label that is approximately 75% intact. The crisp medium action is well suited for dry fly work at close range but the rod also possesses plenty of reserve power for those frequently needed long range casts. I had it out on West Michigan's Rogue River last week chasing riding trout with Size 18-22 BWO's and found it to be an amazing little wand that throws effortless loops with a Cortland 444 Peach DT-4. $650 includes USA shipping SALE PENDING (SH)

Hardy St. George Jr. ~ 2 9/16th" ~ LHW ~ SN 484 ~ AS NEW ~ This 1998 reproduction of this famous Hardy fly reel was first introduced by the famous Alnwick, England maker c. 1928. In celebration of Hardy's 125th Anniversary, 1,000 replicas were made available in the US market. Only a few remain. It features a dual pawl, adjustable drag system, 3 screw latch cover, round N/S line guard, dual pinned check wheel, naval brass bushings, ebonite handle, and ribbed aluminum foot. JWS and 484 are stamped on the inner frame. The reel came loaded with a brand new Cortland Sylk DT-3 line and backing which I removed and which is why I rated the reel "As New" instead of "New."
